Graham Caldersmith

It is my pleasure to support fine young musicians by donating a violin to each winner of the Kendall National Violin Competition. These uniquely Australian instruments made from beautiful Australian tonewoods are therefore enjoyed by performers and audiences here and overseas.

Forests NSW

Forests NSW has had a long association with the Kendall community. The fortunes of both are tied to a vital and innovative future for Australian timbers.  This is embodied in the final form those Australian timbers take in the superb instruments fashioned by Graham Caldersmith.

The values of the region’s timber products have been increased over time. They are on show to the world in such diverse places as Parliament House in Canberra, in the walls and floors of countless homes around New South Wales, and in things of such intrinsic beauty as violins and other musical instruments.

Forests NSW is proud that our now eleven year association with the Kendall National Violin Competition has encouraged and rewarded many young violinists and at the same time showcased the multiple values of fine timber, fine instruments and blossoming young musical talent.

We were attracted to it as it fosters our most gifted young musicians and recognises the importance of interacting with our regional communities. It remains a privilege to be associated with such a visionary and effective organizing committee as well as the extraordinary craftsmanship and generosity of Graham Caldersmith. The addition of our TimberLay International Travel Scholarship now offers a new dimension to this important national Competition for Australia’s brightest young violin talent.
