Melody Wang

JIAJING (MELODY) WANG (Winner)
Melody moved to Sydney when she was a teenager and studied the violin under Prof. Peter Zhang and Prof. Goetz Richter. She has also worked with such distinguished violinists as Itzhak Perlman, Ruggiero Ricci, Wanda Wilkomirska, Zakhar Bron, David Kim (concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra), Stephen Rose (violin principal of the Cleveland Orchestra), Zoltan Almasi (the Berlin Phiharmonic Orchestra) and Sergiu Schwartz.

Melody first performed in public at the age of six. She has awarded many prizes nationally and internationally including the Third Prize at the Novosibirsk International Violin Competition in Russia, and the Third Prize at the Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poland. She has been also invited to have interviews and recordings for SBS Radio Australia as well as the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Since 2003, Melody has appeared as a soloist on the stages of many countries including Australia, Canada, China, France, Mexico, Poland, Russia and USA, under baton of the conductors from Australia, China, Mexico, Poland, and USA. She was also honorably granted Australian citizenship under the Distinguished Talent category.

ln 2009 Melody was selected to participate the Pacific Music Festival in Japan which was found by Leonard Bernstein in 1990. The same year, she was appointed the Associate Concertmaster in the Macao Orchestra.

In 2010 Melody was invited by the French Consulate to perform in a major French Music Festival, La Fete de la Musique. She’s also giving recitals regularly in China.

Tessa Ho

TESSA HO
Tessa is 22 years old and has been playing the violin since age five. In 2010, she graduated with a Bachelor of Music with Honours from the University of Melbourne, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, where she specialised in Music Performance. Tessa also holds a Licentiate Diploma of Music (2001) and Associate Diploma of Music (2000) (AMEB), both gained with distinction. She has previously studied with Leonid Zeyde, and currently studies with Mark Mogilevski.

In 2007, Tessa was the recipient of the Lady Turner Exhibition award and in 2008, she received the Ormond Exhibition award, both from the School of Music at the University of Melbourne. In 2009, Tessa received the Faculty Merit Scholarship from the School of Music and was awarded the Bertha Jorgenson Exhibition Award. In 2010, Tessa was the recipient of the Corinna D’Hage Mayer Scholarship, Lady Turner Exhibition Award and the Bertha Jorgenson Award. She was the 2011 recipient of the University of Melbourne Graduate Scholarships, The Joyce McKenna Scholarship and The Sir William McKie Travelling Scholarship. Tessa has also recorded for the 3MBS FM ‘Live at the Convent’ programme and has performed as soloist with the University of Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Maroondah Symphony Orchestra, Preston Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Youth Symphony Orchestra. In September 2010, she gave a recital for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Friends in the Iwaki Auditorium, and performed at the Music at St Silias Charity Concert for UNICEF to raise funds for the victims of the Pakistan floods. In July 2011, she will be performing at the 150th Anniversary Concert for the Musical Society of Victoria at the Iwaki Auditorium, Southbank in Melbourne. 

Tessa was the winner of the 29th National Youth Concerto Competition (2004). In 2008, Tessa was a finalist in the Kendall National Violin Competition, where she was awarded the 2008 TimberLay International Travelling Scholarship. Tessa was awarded 3rd prize at the 2009 Dorcas McClean International Travelling Scholarship Competition. In 2010, she was the winner of the Hepzibah Menuhin Memorial Award String Section. Tessa was also named the 2010 3MBS Young Performer of the Year, and went on to become the National MBS Young Performer of the Year in 2010.

In September 2011, Tessa will be moving to London, United Kingdom, to undertake a Masters of Arts in Performance at the Royal Academy of Music, where she has been offered the prestigious ABRSM Scholarship.

Christina Morris

CHRISTINA MORRIS
Christina completed her Bachelor of Music Performance with First Class Honours in 2009. In 2010 she has been preparing for Postgraduate auditions in Germany as well as participating in the January season of the Australian Youth Orchestra.

From June 2010 until August 2010 Christina has had lessons with many of the leading violin pedagogues  in Germany. In September she will participate in a Violin master course with Muriel Cantoreggi in France. She is currently spending the Summer in Berlin completing a language course.

In October this year Christina will commence study with Professor Gregor Kotow at the Music School in Hannover, Germany. Kotow is a member of the Symanowski String Quartet who perform regularly throughout Europe. At the Hannover Music School Christina will participate in chamber music and orchestral studies while receiving private lessons.

Christina was recently awarded a Big Brother Award in order to expand her education in the UK. She will travel to London later in the year to meet Professor David Takeno from the Guild Hall and then early 2011 once more for the Prussia Cove Chamber Music Festival.

Christina was accepted into a Masters program at the Freiburg Musikhochschule and has been studying with Professor Magdalena Rezler since April this year. She has also been offered a 'Praktikum', or one year apprenticeship with the Symphony Orchestra in Freiburg, commencing in October 2011

Lachlan O'Donnell
LACHLAN O'DONNELL
Lachlan graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Music (Advanced Performance) degree, receiving 1st-class honours and the Griffith University Medal. After four years learning from Michele Walsh, he now studies under Paul Wright at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).

Lachlan is an active solo and ensemble performer throughout Australia. He made his solo concerto debut in 2009, performing Stravinsky's Violin Concerto in D with the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, he was the recipient of a Colonial Trust Foundation Scholarship enabling him to participate in the 2010 Australian Youth Orchestra International Tour, for which he held the position of Principal Second Violin. He also plays on a casual basis with the Melbourne, Adelaide and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras and has performed regularly with the Australian Youth Orchestra since 2006.

Lachlan has been a finalist in the Kendall National Violin Competition (2008 and 2010), a Stage II finalist in the Symphony Australia Young Performer Awards (2009) and a finalist in the ANAM Concerto Competition (2010). His most recent awards include the Ronald Clifford Davis Violin Prize, the Matilda Jane Aplin Violin Prize and the Dulcie E.E. Kappe award for most outstanding string instrumentalist at the Queensland Conservatorium.

Lachlan is participating in the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s Qantas Emerging Artist Program.  He has been touring with the ACO2, which included a visit to Port Macquarie’s Glasshouse Arts, Conference and Entertainment Centre.
