Jiajing Wang
JIAJING WANG
Jiajing began studying violin with her father at the age of three. At the age of ten she was accepted with highest marks to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music where she studied until 2003. She’s now studying as a full scholarship holder with Professor Goetz Richter at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She has also worked with such distinguished violinists as Itzhak Perlman, Ruggiero Ricci, Charmian Gadd, Alice Waten, Wanda Wilkomirska, Robert Masters, Charles Avsharian, Walter Verdehr and the Borodin Quartet.

Jiajing had her first performance at the age of six. In 1995 she received First Prize at the China National Violin Competition. In 2004 she was awarded Third Prize at the Russian Novosibirsk International Violin Competition organized by Zakhar Bron. In 2005 she won Overall Outstanding Prize and the Best Performer with Orchestra at the Sydney Concerto Competition. In 2006 she took part in the Performing Arts Challenge Competition where she won First Prize in all violin sections she entered. In September 2006, she was awarded Third Prize at the Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poland. Jiajing was also invited to interview and record for SBS Radio Australia as well as the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Jiajing has performed as a soloist on the stages of many countries including USA, Canada, Australia, France, Poland, Russia, Mexico and China under baton of the conductors from Poland, Australia, USA, Mexico and China. Last year she was honorably granted Permanent Residency in Australia under the Distinguished Talent category.

Tessa Ho TESSA HO

Tessa is 19 years old and has been playing the violin since age five. She holds a Licentiate Diploma of Music (2001) and Associate Diploma of Music (2000) (AMEB), both gained with distinction. Tessa completed her schooling at Melbourne Girls’ Grammar in 2006, where she held the position of Music Captain, and is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Music at the University of Melbourne.

In 2007, Tessa was the recipient of the Lady Turner Exhibition award from the Faculty of Music at the University of Melbourne. In 2006, she was selected to perform at the VCE Top Class at the Iwaki Auditorium.

Tessa has won numerous competitions since a young age. She was the winner of the 29th National Youth Concerto Competition in 2004, where she performed as a soloist with the Queensland Youth Orchestra in Brisbane. Tessa has also won the Musical Society of Victoria 12, 15 and 18 years and under competitions; the Preston Symphony Youth Concerto Competition (2001); and the Paul McDermott Scholarship for Strings (2002).

Tessa currently studies with Mark Mogilevski.

Christina Morris CHRISTINA MORRIS
Christina Morris has been learning the violin from the age of five, with Petra Davis and then Sophie Rowell at the Australian Institute of Music through its Young Musicians Program. She also attributes much of her musical skill to Lyn Williams and the Sydney Children’s Choir. Since 2004 she has been studying violin with Associate Professor Goetz Richter.

Christina is now in her third year of a Bachelor of Music Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has received several scholarships for performance as well as her level of excellence in chamber music. She is an avid chamber musician, being the first violinist in the Bloodwood String Quartet, which is resident quartet at the Australian Youth Orchestra’s Young Australian Concert Artist’s Regional Residency. Christina also enjoys being a part of new music, recently performing with the Fellowship of Australian Composers.
        
Having played with orchestras from a young age, Christina is continuing her orchestral development with the Australian Youth Orchestra, Sydney Sinfonia and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In 2008, Christina is concert master of the Sydney Youth Orchestra as well as the Sydney Conservatorium’s Symphony Orchestra.

Lachlan O'Donnell LACHLAN O'DONNELL
In 2008, Lachlan is completing his third year of a Bachelor of Music in Advanced Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium where he studies with Michele Walsh. He is curently concertmaster of the Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra and associate-concertmaster of the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra.

Lachlan was awarded his A.Mus. A in 2003 at the age of 16. He has won many of the conservatorium’s major competitions including the Matilda Jane Aplin Violin Prize and the Ronald Clifford Davis Violin Prize. Lachlan frequently participates in the national programs run by the Australian Youth Orchestra and has performed with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra as part of their Orchestral Career Development program. Lachlan has played in masterclasses with violinists such as Rudolf Koelman, Charles Castleman and Simon Fischer.

Outside of the classical realm, Lachlan has toured Australia with his klezmer band The Gypsy Hot Club, playing at the Woodford Folk Festival, the National Folk Festival and in venues such as the National Gallery of Australia and the concert hall of the Sydney Opera House. They have been profiled on national television and radio and in 2003 received a grant from the Australia Council for the Arts to record and produce an album of original material which was released in 2004. Lachlan hopes to study overseas after he completes his degree in Brisbane next year.
