JIAJING (MELODY) WANG (Winner)
Jiajing moved to Sydney when she was a teenager and studied the violin under Prof. Peter Zhang and Prof. Goetz Richter. She has also worked with such distinguished violinists as Itzhak Perlman, Ruggiero Ricci, Wanda Wilkomirska, Zakhar Bron, David Kim (concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra), Stephen Rose (violin principal of the Cleveland Orchestra), Zoltan Almasi (the Berlin Phiharmonic Orchestra) and Sergiu Schwartz.
Jiajing first performed in public at the age of six. She has awarded many prizes nationally and internationally including the Third Prize at the Novosibirsk International Violin Competition in Russia, and the Third Prize at the Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poland. She has been also invited to have interviews and recordings for SBS Radio Australia as well as the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
Jiajing has appeared as a soloist on the stages of many countries including Australia, Canada, China, France, Mexico, Poland, Russia and USA, under baton of the conductors from Australia, China, Mexico, Poland, and USA.
She was honorably granted Australian citizenship under the Distinguished Talent category, and is currently appointed the Associate Concertmaster in the Macao Orchestra.
This year Jiajing was selected to participate the Pacific Music Festival in Japan which was found by Leonard Bernstein in 1990.

TESSA HO
Tessa has been playing the violin since age five. She holds a Licentiate Diploma of Music (2001) and Associate Diploma of Music (2000) (AMEB), both gained with distinction. Tessa completed her schooling at Melbourne Girls’ Grammar in 2006, where she held the position of Music Captain.
She is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Music at the University of Melbourne studying with Mark Mogilevski.
In 2006, Tessa was selected to perform at the VCE Top Class at the Iwaki Auditorium. In 2007, Tessa was the recipient of the Lady Turner Exhibition award from the Faculty of Music at the University of Melbourne. She was awarded the 2008 Ormond Exhibition Award for being the top String student in her year and, in 2009, the University of Melbourne Faculty of Music Merit Scholarship.
In July 2009 Tessa travelled to London to use her Timberlay International Scholarship and received master classes from two great violin professors, namely Professor Maurice Hasson at the Royal Academy of Music and Doctor Felix Andrievsky of the Royal College of Music. Since her return she has gained third place in the Dorcas Maclean International Travelling Scholarship.
Tessa is in her final year at University, preparing for auditions for Masters of Music studies overseas . She is scheduled to give a September recital for the Friends and Patrons of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as part of her 2009 grant of the Bertha Jorgensen Award. She is the recipient of the Corinna D'Hage Mayer Scholarship for 2010 for which she was nominated by the University of Melbourne School of Music.

CHRISTINA MORRIS
Christina Morris has been learning the violin from the age of five, with Petra Davis and then Sophie Rowell at the Australian Institute of Music through its Young Musicians Program. She also attributes much of her musical skill to Lyn Williams and the Sydney Children’s Choir. Since 2004 she has been studying violin with Associate Professor Goetz Richter. Christina is now in her third year of a Bachelor of Music Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has received several scholarships for performance as well as her level of excellence in chamber music. She is an avid chamber musician, being the first violinist in the Bloodwood String Quartet, which is resident quartet at the Australian Youth Orchestra’s Young Australian Concert Artist’s Regional Residency. Christina also enjoys being a part of new music, recently performing with the Fellowship of Australian Composers.
Having played with orchestras from a young age, Christina is continuing her orchestral development with the Australian Youth Orchestra, Sydney Sinfonia and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In 2008, Christina is concert master of the Sydney Youth Orchestra as well as the Sydney Conservatorium’s Symphony Orchestra. |

LACHLAN O'DONNELL
In 2009, Lachlan graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Music in Advanced Performance, receiving Class 1 Honours and the Griffith University Medal. After studying there for four years under the guidance of Michele Walsh, Lachlan has now begun studying on full scholarship at the Australian National Academy of Music under Paul Wright.
Lachlan is an active performer as a soloist and as a member of various ensembles throughout Australia. In 2009, Lachlan made his solo concerto debut performing Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto in D with the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra. He performs regularly with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and on occasion with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, Lachlan is a recipient of a Colonial Trust Foundation Scholarship, which will enable him to participate in the 2010 Australian Youth Orchestra’s International Tour, on which he will hold the position of Principal Second Violin.
Lachlan’s most recent awards include the Ronald Clifford Davis Violin Prize, the Matilda Jane Aplin Violin Prize and the Dulcie E.E. Kappe award for most outstanding string instrumentalist at the Queensland Conservatorium. He has been a finalist in the Kendall National Violin Competition, a Stage II finalist in the Symphony Australia Young Performer Awards and in 2010 is a finalist in the ANAM Concerto Competition. He has played for violinists such as Midori, James Ehnes, Rudolf Koelman, Charles Castleman, Simon Fischer and members of the Julliard String Quartet, the Jerusalem String Quartet, the Flinders Quartet, the Goldner String Quartet, the Australian String Quartet and the Eggner Trio.
